“Do you accept late work?”

Yes, I accept late work with a 25 percent point reduction for each day it is late. Of course if there are extenuating circumstances, please reach out to me.

"Do you offer extra help before or after school?"

Yes, I am available a half hour before school starts and an hour after school each day. Students should reach out to me ahead of time and let me know if they are going to stop by for help, to be sure I will be there that day. Occasionally I do have other obligations.

"Do you offer extra credit?"

I do offer extra credit. Several times during the semester I will offer opportunities to earn extra credit.

"Can students revise their papers for a better grade?"

Yes, students can revise papers for a better grade. In fact, I prefer it. Students learn from correcting their papers and improving their writing through multiple revisions.

"What if my student does poorly on a test. Is there anyway they can retake it?"

Yes, students may retake tests if they so desire. The test will not be the exact same one they took before, but it will be based on the same study guide. I believe in learning for mastery, so if students have not yet mastered the material, they may redo it. I will average the two grades together for their final grade.

"What if I object to a book you are reading in class based on moral or religious grounds?"

Students may replace any of the books we read in class with another literary book of their choosing, subject to parent and teacher approval. Though I would argue that it benefits all of us to be exposed to cultures and beliefs that differ than our own. That's what enables us to develop understanding, tolerance and compassion for those who differ from us. But I would never force a student or a parent to read a book that they object to based on their religious or moral beliefs.
